To see if you have polyps, you should be subject to a colonoscopy. What is, is passed, a small tube with a camera through the intestine. You can see everything on a computer screen. The tube has a hook quickly, so that when they look at a polyp, while it removed, and then send it to pathology for testing cancer. I have a link to answer some of your questions. http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases ...

In the United States, more than 50,000 people with colorectal cancer each year. However, cancers are in advanced stages of colon and rectum easily avoidable. Since most of these cancers begin as adenomatous polyps - a small group of cells that forms in the intestinal wall. Although the vast majority of polyps are harmless, some over time, cancer.

I had a colonoscopy, there are about 3 weeks.
The doctor told me to take up to 4, 3 were minor but one was against cancer.
Since I already did, no problem. He had no pain, except feeling a little tired after the surgery, I'd been there myself.

Your friend can be good to have a colonoscopy. It hurts.
